Gaudeamus Award 2016

A professional jury consisting of Seung-Won Oh (KOR), Pierre Jodlowski (FRA) and Willem Jeths (NLD) has drawn up a shortlist for the 2016 Gaudeamus Award.
No fewer than 175 scores from 28 different countries were submitted for the 2016 competition. Together with representatives of the category ensembles Amsterdam Sinfonietta (Willem de Bordes), Silbersee (MaNOj Kamps) en Ensemble Modelo62 (Ezequiel Menalled), the judging panel selected the following five composers to enter the prestitious competition next year:

* AMONG AM A by James O’Callaghan (1988, Canada)

* Drop by David Bird (1990, USA)

* From a Forest of Standing Mirrors by Anthony Vine (1988, USA)

* Madhye II by Shih-Wei Lo (1985, Taiwan)

* Organismo Aperto No.1 by Giulio Colangelo (1986, Italy)

More than one work by each nominee will feature at Gaudeamus Muziekweek in September 2016. The winner of the Gaudeamus Award 2016 will be announced after the closing concert of the festival. The hotly coveted international award consists of a composition commission worth € 5,000.

Gaudeamus Muziekweek Academy
During Gaudeamus Muziekweek Academy, which takes place prior to the festival, selected works of the nominees will be rehearsed in close collaboration between the ensembles and the composers, who will also be commissioned to write a brief piece for the Bozzini Quartet (together with Oerknal! the ensemble in residence). Additional meetings and workshops will be scheduled throughout the GMW Academy for the benefit and enjoyment of the composers as well as the audience.

The Gaudeamus Muziekweek Academy runs from Thursday 1 September through Wednesday 7 September 2016.
The Gaudeamus Muziekweek Festival runs from Wednesday 7 September through Sunday 11 September 2016.
