About Gaudeamus Muziekweek
Gaudeamus presents, organizes, promotes, and supports the newest music by pioneering talent. Gaudeamus has been an advocate of trailblazing composers around the world for 70 years. It facilitates the development of new work and a stage where tomorrow’s music is performed to an appreciative audience of music lovers.
Gaudeamus is an unmissable part of the current international (new) music scene.
The annual Gaudeamus Muziekweek festival has been held in Utrecht since 2011. It is the international meeting place for young composers and musical pioneers. The festival culminates in the presentation of the Gaudeamus Award, an incentive prize for composers under 30.
In addition to the festival, there are two-monthly Gaudeamus Muziekweek Sessions where young ensembles as well as composers wanting to hone their craft are given the opportunity to present work-in-progress.
Throughout the year, Gaudeamus Muziekweek is an active platform. It promotes and stimulates musical developments in the Netherlands and elsewhere. In addition, it is an active partner in organisations such as ECPNM, ISCM, IAMIC, and the European Ulysses Network, founded in 2012.
International editions of Gaudeamus Muziekweek are making waves around the world. In January 2012, the very first Gaudeamus Muziekweek New York took place while in April 2014, Gaudeamus Canada was staged in Toronto and Montreal.
